Ancient Path

The long path is about generational consciousness

Jeremiah 6:16 “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls.”

In the world today, we have a tendency to gravitate toward anything that is easy, quick, or familiar. We are conditioned to have immediate gratification, so we avoid anything that may take more time than we want to give or slows our pace to a countercultural cadence.

Abraham is called the father of faith simply because he had the courage to do what was unfamiliar to him. He was willing to hear and obey the ancient voice of the Father calling him to colonize the earth with a covenant people who would be as numerous as the stars in the sky and the sands of the seashore. When Abraham began on that path, he couldn’t see beyond each step. But his promise wasn’t just for him, but for each generation that followed. On this ancient path, Abraham learned that faith must be rooted in trust. Trust is what you gain when you learn to surrender each step to a Father who can only be good.

Maybe, in a world that is so fast-paced, mass-produced, and generic, we need to heed the word of the Lord spoken to Jeremiah that called him back to the ancient, proven path. The one that will lead your soul to find rest. This ancient path will not be filled with the common seeker or the casual observer. This path will draw the hungry, demand the authentic, and produce the pure of heart. On this path, you pursue the revelation of proximity. You value the awareness of His nearness without any demand for production. The ancient path points in one direction, and that is back to the garden of bliss. This path doesn’t lead you to productive ministry; it leads you to the never-ending embrace that all began in a garden.

“Two roads diverged in the wood, and I,

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.” —Robert Frost
