The Deep

Updated: Apr 29

Devotion / Worship / Lifestyle / Mystery

Shallow water is noisy, but the deep water is still.

What is it that you discover when you go to the shores of any beach? You notice that people come, and they love to enjoy the sights and sounds that welcome them to enjoy. Most people will go into the water and splash in the shallow tides and feel the crash of the waves as they play. There is nothing “wrong” about that, but there is a different kind of person who is not content just playing in the shallow. They are those dreaming of what’s in the deep.

In devotion, we consider what’s within the deep. It’s where the mysteries are. Most people will be attracted to and settle for the shallow, but there is something in the deep that is a hidden mystery. Don’t settle for the busyness of the shallows and miss out on the weighty mysteries of the deep.

Deep always cries out to the deep. The only things that are able to survive in the deep are the mysteries that the shallows are not able to inherit. In the shallows, you may discover treasures, but it’s nothing compared to what is still hidden in the deep. The deep is where wonder is, but it’s under the weight of glory that hides it as a mystery.

How can I abide in the deep? I must become a part of the mystery within the deep. I become a part of wonder as I learn to become a natural part of the environment. The deep must become my home. It’s within me, as I am within it. To find me, you must be willing to search the deep. For the seeker, the deep is a paradise. It’s a place that is to be discovered and explored for the treasures that are waiting from the beginning of time. Casual observation is impossible to comprehend the treasures that are there. I’ve been swept away in His goodness and have been drowned in His beauty, which has caused me to become like what I’ve beheld.

Don’t settle for the shallows of entertainment. It’s safe there on its shores. But have the courage to go into the deep—where you may feel out of control, but as the depth increases, so does your wonder. You don’t go deep by going far. You go deep when you choose to go down under the surface and submit yourself to the atmosphere that is impossible to sustain yourself. The mysteries are calling—where wonder is recovered, and where truth will demand your surrender. It’s the only place where the wanderer can’t live. The wanderer will drown in the wonder. Go into the deep, far away from the noise. Go into the deep water, where everything is still, where the mystery is waiting.
